Heavy Duty Festoon Systems for Crane Modernization
NewsService Excellence: Crane Modernization by Conductix-Wampfler!
The heaviest motorized festoon system Conductix-Wampfler has ever engineered and built, has been rolled successfully onto STS container crane beam.
Our Global Service Organization recently completed a retrofit project on Ship-to-Shore container cranes (STS crane) at Terminal des Flandres in Dunkirk in France.
The retrofit project comprised two heavy duty festoon systems. One motorized festoon system, including the replacement of the control panel, and the replacement of a non-motorized heavy duty festoon system on another STS crane. The scope of the project was system engineering, and in particular the extension of the crane beam required to accommodate our system installation, as well as festoon pre-assembly at the quay, scaffolding installation, as well as preparation work on the STS cranes to meet the customer’s requirements. A strong focus was on ensuring that crane downtime did not exceed four days. In addition, cable laying and cabling was a major part of the work, with both cable packages weighing approximately 50 kg/meter (35 power and control cables).
This retrofit service project was awarded to Conductix-Wampfler on a turnkey basis. Conductix-Wampfler successfully completed these two retrofits, one after the other, including commissioning, within four weeks, and with the support of a team of 30 technicians from various countries (Turkey/Belgium/France/Germany).
